GainSpan demonstrates SEP 2.0 over Wi-FiFierce EnergyGainSpan recently demonstrated multiple technologies at the Wi-Fi Smart Energy Forum, showcasing how the company's low-power Wi-Fi solutions will enable tomorrow's smart energy market. The event was the first public demonstration of Smart Energy Profile (SEP) 2.0. As SEP 2.0 is an application layer that is PHY and MAC agnostic, it could also run on Homeplug or Zigbee. |

Will My Wireless Ever Cut the Power Cord?Smart Grid TMCNetCarl Ford: "As an advocate for our future of the wireless Internet, I am depressing to watch as I bring power strips to manage my computer and phone. My use of my phone has a hot spot almost everywhere I travel, and it has made me sadly cabled to power outlets. If you are ever looking for me, I am probably no more than five feet from any wall with an outlet. In my car, I have the lighter charger that is an A/C converter connected to a power strip, as well, which for some of my vehicles makes my AAA card valuable." |

GainSpan Announces Successful Integration of GS1011MIP Wi-Fi Module with STMicroelectronics 8/32-bit MCUEmbedded Systems NewsGainSpan's GS1011MIP Wi-Fi module is the ideal solution to enable fast development of Wi-Fi enabled devices. It includes a full Wi-Fi stack including WPS for easy provisioning, Over-The-Air firmware update, optional networking stack and services and 802.11i security. In the demonstration, the networking stack and security reside on the GS1011MIP offloading the MCU from all Wi-Fi and networking functions, while the host MCU handles the application and connects to the Wi-Fi module over UART or SPI interfaces using AT commands. The Wi-Fi module also features an ultra low power SoC that consumes just a few µA of standby current and has a wake-up latency of only a few ms, which is ideal for battery operated devices requiring years of battery life. |
