SAXA Adopts GainSpan Chips for Ultra Low Power Wi-Fi Sensors

Fully integrated sensor and system ideal for wide variety of wireless sensor applications

San Jose, CA - July 12, 2011 -GainSpan Corporation a leader in low power embedded Wi-Fi solutions, announced today that SAXA, Inc., a subsidiary of SAXA Holdings, Inc. is using the GainSpan GS1011 system-on-chip (SoC) in the SAXA Wireless LAN Sensor NX-163. This Wi-Fi based sensor along with the SAXA monitoring software can be used in a large variety of applications.

The NX-163 integrates light, temperature and humidity sensors and could also be connected to external sensors to communicate sensor information over Wi-Fi to a computer or smart phone. SAXA is initially targeting the smart energy market, with the Wi-Fi based sensor being used as a sub-meter to measure and monitor energy consumption. The new device will also see applications in the agriculture, home security and fitness markets. SAXA is currently sampling this product to customers.

SAXA's Wireless LAN Sensor NX-163 integrates the GainSpan GS1011 SoC to deliver an ultra low power consumption profile for long battery life applications, in a small (92×62×29mm ), lightweight (120g) and TELEC * certified package. The Wi-Fi enabled sensor easily interfaces to the existing Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) infrastructure for a wide variety of condition monitoring applications.
