Renesas DevCon 2015, ORANGE COUNTY, CA - GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in wireless connectivity solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), announces the availability of reference code to connect its GS2000-based Wi-Fi modules to the new Renesas Synergy™ Platform. This reference code complements code already available from GainSpan for most Renesas MCU/ MPU product lines including the RZ, RX, and RL78.
GainSpan also provides various Wi-Fi adapter boards to interface with Renesas Synergy development kits and other Renesas MCU/ MPU kits, including Wi-Fi shields compatible with the popular Arduino™ form-factor, Wi-Fi adaptor boards using UART or SPI for the widely accepted Pmod™ connector form-factor, and SD cards for SDIO interfaces.
The reference code and Wi-Fi adapter boards will be featured in several product demonstrations by Renesas partners and GainSpan at Renesas DevCon 2015, opening Oct 12, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency in Orange County.
"We have been collaborating with Renesas over the years in supporting their MCUs/ MPUs and developing joint product reference designs and we are pleased to introduce a timely connectivity solution to the Renesas Synergy Platform, a powerful platform and a significant step in simplifying IOT development," said Bernard Aboussouan, Vice President of Business Development at GainSpan."Wireless connectivity is an essential component of IOT applications," said Semir Haddad, Marketing Director, MCU and MPU Products and Solutions at Renesas Electronics America. "Combining GainSpan Wi-Fi modules with our Renesas Synergy Platform makes it a complete connected solution that reduces the barrier to entry for designing innovative IoT solutions."
The Renesas Synergy reference code is currently available in its Serial to Wi-Fi version, where the networking stack and services reside on the GS2000 modules. The corresponding IP to Wi-Fi version, where the networking stack resides on a Renesas Synergy MCU host, will be available shortly. Serial to Wi-Fi and IP to Wi-Fi reference codes are also available for other higher end Renesas MCUs while Serial to Wi-Fi reference code is available for lower end MCUs.
The new reference code supports any of GainSpan's latest generation GS2000 family of Wi-Fi modules. These fully certified modules are based on the GainSpan GS2000 dual mode Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and 802.15.4 SoC, and provide a variety of features requested by customers for IoT devices such as low-power consumption, high security through on-chip hardware crypto block, Wi-Fi direct and concurrent mode, where the device can act as a station and an access point concurrently.
The Renesas Synergy reference code is available to download for free through GainSpan’s support portal. Wi-Fi adapter boards are available through GainSpan authorized distributors.
