Product Overview

The GainSpan Serial-to-Wi-Fi Software Development Kit (SDK) allows engineers to customize the Serial-to-Wi-Fi interface software and embedded web pages running on the GS1011 module. Development teams can re-use an existing microcontroller (MCU) and integrate the GS1011 Module (with Serial-to-Wi-Fi software) for Wi-Fi connectivity. When used with an MCU SDK, the Serial-to-Wi-Fi SDK lets development teams quickly integrate and fine-tune the interface between the MCU firmware and the Serial-to-Wi-Fi software.

The SDK is based on GainSpan's GS1011M module, which provides a UART or SPI as the MCU interconnect. The Serial-to-Wi-Fi interface software provides a comprehensive, open API for software integration with host microcontroller firmware. Developers can expand the API with vendor-specific APIs. Embedded web pages make it easy to configure the GS1011 module. New pages can be added and existing ones enhanced for custom configuration pages. In addition, custom software can be added, offloading additional functionality from the host MCU if needed.

The SDK includes the development board, comprehensive embedded software, configuration management system, firmware update system, RTOS and development environment. Two SDK options are available: SDK basic and professional.

Development Board

The GainSpan Development Board (DB) consists of the GS1011M module, a JTAG header and connectors to integrate with a host MCU for prototyping and firmware development. The module's interfaces and I/Os include: UART, SPI, I2C, RTC, PWM, GPIO's, Alarm pins, Wake-up pin, ADC and a 3.3 V power source. A JTAG connector enables debugging of Serial-to-Wi-Fi software, web pages and custom software.

Embedded Software Source Code

The SDK includes source code and binaries for:

• Serial-to-Wi-Fi interface software: API for MCU firmware to configure, control and send data via the GS1011 module
• Web pages for Wi-Fi configuration: Wi-Fi, IP network and device configuration

Serial-To-Wi-Fi Command Driver Source Code

The kit includes sample Serial-to-Wi-Fi Command Driver source code. Engineers can import the source code files into the MCU SDK, integrate it with the MCU firmware, build and run it on the host MCU. This reduces the development time and effort required to update the MCU firmware.
