The GS2100M is a small footprint module that provides a quick, easy, cost-effective way for device and appliance manufacturers to add Wi-Fi connectivity to their products. Intended for smart energy and sensor applications, the module has 3x16 bit sigma-delta ADCs for high resolution sensor and measurement devices.
The GS2100M can be used in a hostless mode (no external MCU), or hosted mode where it connects to an 8/16/32-bit microcontroller using UART, SPI or SDIO interfaces.
In a hostless mode, the module runs the full Wi-Fi and TCP/IP networking stacks. It supports a complete suite of security protocols, including WPA/WPA2-Enterprise and Personal security modes, and upper layer security protocols such as TLS/SSL, embedded DHCP, DNS and HTTP(S) clients and servers, XML parser, service and device discovery, easy provisioning, over-the-air firmware updates, and more.
For the hosted mode, two software configurations are available. For applications utilizing a small resource constrained microcontroller host, the module supports a serial to Wi-Fi function and runs the full Wi-Fi and TCP/IP networking stacks, completely offloading the host. For applications using more powerful microcontrollers/ microprocessors, the networking stack and services can reside on the host while the module provides the IP to Wi-Fi functionality. To optimize power consumption in applications with powerful MCUs, the module could act as the sensor hub and maintain the cloud connectivity while the host is sleeping , and only wake up the host when required.
The module can be simply and easily provisioned/commissioned from a smartphone or laptop through numerous methods including the patented Limited AP mode or Concurrent mode provisioning, Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), secure group provisioning, QR code, WeChat and iOS provisioning.
The module is single sided with castellation on the edges for soldering it down on the product’s baseboard. It is available with an u.FL connector to add an external antenna for max performance or a PCB antenna for lower cost and convenience while saving space.
The module is an ideal solution for organizations with limited Wi-Fi or RF expertise or for those seeking faster time to market. It is IEEE 802.11b/g/n compliant, and meets Wi-Fi Alliance certification requirements. All modules are also certified for US/Canada (FCC /IC), Europe (ETSI) and Japan (TELEC).
