The Wi-Fi Adapter Board (WAB) can be plugged into a microcontroller (MCU) development kit to enable Wi-Fi connectivity in MCU-hosted applications. It helps developers quickly evaluate the capabilities of GainSpan’s low-power GS2011MIZ Wi-Fi modules and embedded software, and develop software for MCU host-based Wi-Fi enabled devices.
The WAB supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n protocols and includes a GainSpan GS2011MIZ soldered down module. It communicates with the MCU over the SPI or UART interface. It is designed to plug into various MCU development kits, such as for the Renesas RL78, RX100/200/600 families, and Renesas Synergy Platform using the PMOD interface or the Renesas Application Header interface. The boards have built-in external flash for reliable over the air firmware upgrade, factory restore configuration as well as data storage for web pages.
The Wi-Fi adaptor board ships with Serial-to-WiFi software preloaded on the module. However, customers should load the latest version of the module firmware that is the most suited for their application from the GainSpan portal, or program the board with custom binaries built using the GainSpan SDK Builder or GS2000 SDK.
